FAQ & COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

We understand that there are misconceptions surrounding security guard services. Here are some of the most common questions we receive:

  • A Security Guard who knows and understands the Texas State Laws can do a lot, including temporary holds or detainments until Law Enforcement arrives. We are not Law Enforcement Officers, but we know what we can do to support the public safety of the Greater Austin area. Our Guards receive 20+ hours of legal training and ongoing monthly training.

  • At Scout, training and professional development are priorities. While Texas requires minimal training for Level II security officers, Scout security officers receive regularly scheduled and continuous training in:

    • Scout Security culture and standard

    • Security officer roles and responsibilities

    • Site-specific responsibilities

    • Legal requirements

    • Written and verbal communications

    • Interview and reporting skills

    • Observation and decision making

    • Emergency response procedures

    • Mounted and dismounted patrol techniques

    • Self-defense and defense of others

    • CPR and AED

    • First Aid and trauma care

    • Teamwork and leadership

  • Texas State Law forbids the word “Police” to appear on Security Guard uniforms. Texas State Law also forbids the use of any insignia with the intent to give an impression that the person is connected with the federal government, a state government, or a political subdivision of a state government. As much as we want to represent Texas, our State Flag cannot appear on our uniforms. Section 1702.130.
